QUALITY SEAL
We work for your well-being
The Sanitary Quality Program Seal [Programa Sello de Calidad Sanitaria] (PSCS) of the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers [Instituto Costarricense de Acueductos y Alcantarillados] (AYA), aims to reward the operators of aqueducts that provide drinking quality water in a sustainable way and in harmony with nature.
The Sanitary Quality Program Seal reinforces and promotes the administrative entities to conduct tasks as part of an integral management, and seeking sustainable development in the environmental, financial, administrative, and operational aspects of the aqueduct systems.
As well, it encourages a close relationship with the community through environmental education, reforestation programs, beach cleaning and awareness of the use and consumption of water in our homes, educational centers, workplaces, and public spaces.

The ASADA, through its Board of Directors and interdisciplinary team, has managed to efficiently develop an effective economic-financial, strategic, and organizational plan for the fulfillment of its objectives, which includes the investment in improvement, expansion and modernization projects with innovation and a sustainable approach.
One of them included studies in different wells in disuse; among these there was a particular drilling that met the ideal conditions to be equipped and operated with clean energy. So, the Board of Directors and the administration performed market research and finally approved such equipment.
This well has a depth of thirty-six meters, and its pumping equipment consists of a 5-horsepower engine and pump of German technology, powered by eighteen photovoltaic panels which will generate a maximum of 18 kW, for a water production of about 3.5 liters per second, for 12 hours a day. The investment in this project is around eleven million colones and includes well sheathing, interconnection to the main network of one hundred meters in a 2-inch pipe, filling of the site, perimeter closure and equipment. It is estimated that the investment will be recovered in 8 years.
Among the benefits obtained with the new operation of this well are:
1. Strengthening efforts in terms of environmental sustainability, adopting the use of clean energy.
2. Reduction of the water footprint of the overall process of operation of the system.
3. Decrease in electrical infrastructure costs due to the interconnection of the pumping equipment.
4. Reduction of operating costs related to energy consumption and maintenance in general.
